Fox and Disney are back at the table again discussing certain rights to Fox’s assets. We have been disappointed with broken off deals before, although this is supposedly a done deal. A new report from CNBC suggests that the two sides are close to finalizing Disney’s purchase of Fox’s assets, including the 20th Century Fox movie studio, and the deal could be announced by next week.

The value of the deal is estimated to be $60 billion. The rumors started in November, but they had been stalled. But the rumors started up again saying that Fox was more interested in Disney than other companies offers. If this deal concludes and moves forward we could see the X-Men and Fantastic Four, both owned by Fox currently, in Marvel’s cinematic universe. Fans should be excited that these characters will be back in their rightful home, it’s somewhat bittersweet for the X-Men franchise because of being in the midst of a boom period. Projects like Deadpool 2, Logan, and the X-Men movie series have done well or are experiencing hype for their release.

We won’t know what future projects will hold if the deal goes through as planned. For example a upcoming Gambit movie set to release in 2019 with Channing Tatum as the lead. (Which I don’t believe will be missed that much.)

The deal wouldn’t include Fox’s sports and news assets, which would most likely become Fox’s main focus. This deal could prove to be a smart move for Fox, because of the competition with media company giants. If this deal goes through we could see a whole new slew of Marvel movies come to life with the characters reimagined in the eyes of Marvel’s expanding universe.

Could this prove to be a bad idea in the long run? Do you want the X-Men to stay separate? What’re your thoughts? Leave us some comments!
