Rockwall rolls out first all-male volleyball team

Rockwall High School is breaking gender roles with the addition of it’s very first, all male volleyball team. There has been interest in forming a boy’s team for years now at RHS, but this year it is finally happening, after many students were determined to start an official team.

This year there will be one team of 12 players with Coach Ferguson, who is donating his time,  serving as the team’s head The guys have been practicing every Monday and Thursday for 2 hours for the past month preparing for this season. Rockwall’s newest team will be in a league with nine other teams, playing in a tournament every weekend in the month of April and participating in the championship tournament the first weekend of May.

Despite every teenage girl’s wish of seeing boys in unflattering spandex, the boys will be instead wearing a uniform issued by the league they are joining.

Their aim this season is to grow the sport and create interest so that the team that will continue to compete for Rockwall High School in the future.

The boys’ first tournament will be held this weekend Saturday, April 1st in Addison, Texas, and will then hold a fundraiser on April 10 at Chipotle in Rockwall.

They are ready to take the court. In fact, team member Hunter Honeycutt stated, “We are looking forward to beating the varsity girls one day.” 

Hmm…sounds like a challenge!
