One of many new clubs at Rockwall High School this year is the Amination Studio Club. I was able to sit down with the co-founders of the club: Kristen Skousen and Christian Gonzalez.
According to Gonzalez, the purpose of the club is to “enhance other people in different grades to work on collaboration skills”. The members of the club plan to make a feature length, non-profit, film adaption of the video game Undertail, which they hope to finish by the end of the semester.
“We have a pretty slow start”, Gonzalez said. “Considering the fact how we are all beginners at our own things like video recording, audio recording, and animation.” Gonzales explained that this is a learning experience for everyone involved. Gonzalez says that his favorite part of the club is teaching the other animators.
“Right now I am teaching the 3D animations basic modeling skills, but after we do that, then we move onto 2D animation,” Gonzalez said. The 2D animation will include character design, while the background and textures will be 3D. The club is working on acquiring some tools that will make the animation much simpler.
The club is still welcoming new members, especially people with skills in art, animation, computer technicians, musicians, voice actors. The club needs all these people to help create the many layers so the project can be complete. Skousen says that the club needs all the help they can get.
“We’re generally gearing towards people with certain abilities and experiences, which is unlike most of the clubs here,” explained Skousen. “However, we welcome anyone would like to join just to have the experience of being in something of this size.” Skousen says that she feels like this is the biggest thing that she or her fellow club members have been involved in so far in life.
Keep a look out around school for more details about the club and its feature length animation of Undertail.
