1. Bison Bison Bison declared National Mammal

(The amount of repetition is no joke. The American Bison’s literal scientific name is Bison Bison Bison. Look it up.) On May 9th, President Obama signed the National Bison Legacy Act. Because of this, the American Bison was decreed the first national Mammal alongside the national bird, the Bald Eagle. The Bison was chosen because of the amazing conservation efforts that have gone into keeping the species alive, especially after they’ve come so close to extinction in the past. 

2. 2016-2017 Movie Lineup

Attention all movie lovers: 2017 features an incredible lineup of movies for movie lovers of all genres. Action lovers can expect to wait in line to see Fast 8, Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Men Tell No Tales, and World War Z 2. Love horror movies? Annabelle 2 is expected to come out next year, as well as Friday the 13: Camp Blood. There are several superhero movies to expect as well, including Spider Man: Homecoming, Wolverine 3, and Wonder Woman. Can’t wait for 2017? The last 7 months of 2016 will feature movies that will please all movie lovers. Buy your tickets now for Finding Dory, Me Before You, Jason Bourne, The Purge: Election Year, and so many more.

3. Girls 4 by 4 Relay Team Moves on to State

The ladies latest track meet was the area meet was held at Baylor Stadium. The 4 x 400 relay team who consists of Chika Iwuamadi, Liah Collins, Rose Njoku and Morgan Hickman placed second overall, sealing them a spot in the state track meet. They also broke the school record which they had previously set five times in a row beating their previous record of 3:48.07.

4. JK Rowling announces new Harry Potter stage play

Picking up after the 19 Years Later” at the end of Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows, Harry Potter and the Cursed Child is a play written by Jack Thorne, based on a story written by Thorne, J.K. Rowling and John Tiffany. The play will be the first Harry Potter story to be shown on stage, and features many of the same characters that were loved in the original story. The play will be shown at the Palace Theatre London starting in July, but they will have preview showings starting on June 7th. Condolences to all those who can’t afford the airfare.

5. Rockwall ISD Lacrosse Heading to State Final Four

The Rockwall ISD lacrosse team is traveling t0 the 2016 Texas High School Final Four competition this weekend in Allen. The team consists of players from both Rockwall and Rockwall-Heath high schools. Rockwall ISD will verse Mckinney this Saturday, May 14 at 10:00 AM at Eagle Stadium in Allen. The winner of the match will advance to the Championships verses the winner of Plano v. Colleyville. Rockwall is advancing to the Final Four after beating Smithson Valley 17-3 in Round 1 and Stratford 16-4 in Round 2 of the competition. If Rockwall ISD advances to the Finals, the match will be at Eagle Stadium on Sunday, May 15 at 11:00 AM. Congratulations lacrosse players!
