1. Rockwall AcDec competes for the win at national competiton

Recently, Rockwall AcDec traveled to Anchorage, Alaska to compete in the AcDec Nationals Competition. Six members competed and won a total of 23 medals, ten gold, six silver, and seven bronze. Senior Wesley Scivetti placed first in science, literature, economics, social science, and speech. He also placed second in music and art. Scivetti’s speech was the top-scoring speech overall. Senior Rachel Shafer placed first in music, art and literature and second in science and social science. Junior Dan Scivetti placed third in art and math, and senior Tara McCoy placed third in music, interview, literature, science, first in economics and social science, and second in speech. Senior Sam Warren received third in math and second science and Senior Grace Taiwo earned a coveted spot in the national competition. Congratulations to the AcDec team!

2. Trump declared presumptive republican nominee after Cruz and Kasich drop out

Following the suspension of the campaigns of Ted Cruz and John Kasich, Donald Trump has been declared the presumptive GOP nominee. Cruz dropped following defeat in the Indiana primary on Tuesday, and Kasich followed suit on Wednesday. Because of this, Trump is the final GOP candidate and is the presumptive nominee because he doesn’t have enough delegates.

3. Hamilton breaks Tony nomination records

After winning Grammys, a Pulitzer prize, and being popular among many celebrities, Broadway musical Hamilton has made Tony award history. Trumping both The Producers and Billy Elliot, with 15 nominations, Hamilton was nominated for 16 awards. Seven actors and actresses were singled out for their outstanding performances, and some will compete for the same award. Hamilton will compete with four other musicals for the covet Best Musical award, such titles as Bright Star, Waitress,  School of Rock — The Musical and Shuffle Along, or, The Making of the Musical Sensation of 1921 and All That Followed.

4. Elephants Being Taken out of the Circus

The elephant, a staple of many traditional circus’ will be gone by 2018, after nearly 150 years of performing. Due to animal right’s advocates complaints, Feld Entertainment has said enough is enough and will be removing al most all animal performances from the show. So if you want to see an elephant balancing on a ball, juggling three bowling pins, you’ll have to travel all the way to Africa, because you won’t be seeing them in the circus anymore.

5. Service dog in yearbook

“It’s not often you see a yearbook photo with a student holding a leash in her mouth.”

Seph Ware is a boy who has a rare muscle disease called Duchenne muscular dystrophy. Four years ago, he decided to get a service dog, Presley Ware, and they have never gone anywhere alone since then. This year, Seph is in 7th grade and was getting ready to take yearbook pictures when his school made an exception. Since Presley attended the same classes as Seph, the Good Hope Middle School yearbook staff decided that she should be in the yearbook also. Although it took a while to get Presley to look at the camera, they ended up next to each other, looking great.
