Here is what The Stinger staff feels are the top five things you need to know about this week.

1. Lady Jackets continue playoff run

The Lady Jackets soccer team advanced to the second round of the playoffs with a win last weekend over Copperas Cove. Tonight they will face Mesquite Horn in Sunnyvale. Come out and show them your support.

2. Freshmen and sophomores across the state participate in STAAR

This weekend, Rockwall ninth and tenth graders participated in the ELA STAAR tests. Stuck in a room for five and half hours isn’t the best way to spend a day, but at least it’s over.

Some students who participated in an online version of the test, both in Rockwall and statewide, had to deal with computer glitches in the program that impacted their scores. Fortunately, RISD made the wise decision not to make these kids retest or let it affect them negatively in any way.

3. AcDec Students to compete in individual competition in Alaska later this month

Though the Rockwall AcDec team’s bid for a sixth state championship came up short this year in a very tight race despite a record team score, earlier this week six RHS students were invited to represent RHS at the National meet in Alaska. Seniors Tara McCoy, Wesley Scivetti, Rachel Shafer, Grace Taiwo, Sam Warren, and junior Dan Scivetti will take part in the individual competition in Anchorage during the last weekend of April.

4. And then there were four…

If you’re anything like us, your bracket was busted weeks ago, and as a result, much of the shine of March Madness has worn off. Regardless, the Final Four teams standing will face off this weekend to determine which two will meet up in the championship game. Only Villanova, Oklahoma, North Carolina, and Syracuse remain.

5. All good things must come to an end

If you’re reading this, you know that this year the Stinger went digital. However, due to various reasons (not to mention an apparently ill-advised April Fools joke attempt), members of our staff regretfully announce that this will be the last year for the school’s newspaper, either in print or online. It’s been determined that students these days are far too busy studying to read the news. As a result, we are certain they’re smart enough not to believe everything they read on the internet.

Happy April Fools Day, Yellowjackets.

We’re not going anywhere.
