Cross country girls varsity runs to first place at district meet

Boys' varsity team takes second place

Last Saturday the varsity cross country teams traveled to University of Texas at Tyler to compete in the UIL District 11-6A meet. The girls’ team conquered the course and brought home the district title with four runners placing in the top ten with a total score of 30 points. At the meet, the boys’ team placed second with 43 points and took home the district runner-up trophy. Both varsity teams will advance to the Regional meet next week Oct. 25.


The girls’ varsity team was led by first place finisher Ariell Hopkins with an individual time of 19;54.80. Other runners placing within the top ten were Sarah Rippy,third with a time of 20:07.70, Kaitlyn Stark, fifth with a time of 20:36.90, and Amanda Thornton, ninth with a time of 21:00.30.

On the boys’ varsity team, Damon Wilson placed fifth with a time of 17:14.60 and Austin Schumake was close behind with an individual time of 17:18.10. Also placing within the top ten, Sam Fox was seventh with a time of 17:20.20.

Rockwall’s junior varsity cross country teams also dominated their division. The girls’ team won the district title with 42 points and the boys’ finished third in the meet with a total of 68 points.

The JV girls team was led by top three placers Liah Collins, first with an individual time of 21:57.97, Julie Butcher, second with a time of 22:15.92, and Ana Gonzales, third with a time of 22:54.15.

The boys junior varsity had four runners place within the top fifteen. Wilson Null placed tenth with a individual time of 19:41.36, Nick Roland was a close eleventh with a time of 19:47.35, Matthew Hulquist placed thirteenth with a time of 19:51.47, and finally Cole McCrary placed fifteenth with a time of 20:23.58.
